Explore the picturesque Mediterranean landscapes by just following Languedoc’s highways and byways. Take one of the many circular routes in the mountains, and be rewarded by the unexpected panoramic views that await you. In the countryside, follow footpaths through little valleys from where you can see little villages nestling in the meanders of the river. Closer to the sea you will come across salt marshes and lagoons. Here in Languedoc you can find a different idea for a walk
for every day of the year!
Set off exploring Languedoc’s cycle routes at any time of the year. Cycle past vineyards along the back roads, through typical landscapes on seaside cycle paths or along the forest green ways, or go in for a little more excitement by taking your mountain bike along the tracks through the garrigues (Mediterranean scrubland).
Rivers, lakes, sea and lagoons, Languedoc has stretches of water of all kinds. Just a few moments paddling in your canoe and you will find yourself in another world, filled with grandiose landscapes. Narrow gorges and turbulent streams, gently-flowing rivers edged with greenery, lakes on the lower mountain slopes that reflect the blue of the sky or lagoons reminiscent of the Camargue. It is all there waiting for you. Why not dare to do something different and visit Sète
or Montpellier by canoe ?
Languedoc’s other major playground is, of course, the Mediterranean ! Because of southern France’s gentle climate, this is a place where water sports can be enjoyed all year round. If you want to taste the salt on your lips you’ll be spoilt for choice: dinghy sailing, windsurfing, catamarans, kitesurfing - the possibilities are endless. The Languedoc coast also gives you a chance to do something different and try a new way of paddling: discover the va’a, an unusual Hawaiian dugout canoe, sea kayaking, or the SUP surfboard. Find your sea legs.
